We found the "June" fish in the morning hours to be surly, arrogant and uncooperative.
But after 11:30 a total reversal with a few minor adjustments on our part and major changes to the fish. We had uncovered our "July" fish.
Paul's string of successful annual outings is intact. Big numbers again.
The sooner they finish spawning the sooner we have all "July" fish.
Even more fun just around the corner.
Be safe my friends!

July is officialy here! June is still hanging on in some portions of the big lake but three of the five stops had July fish.
Six weeks of brown fish fun...

Busy times...Lots of folks wanting to fish throughout the 4th of July week.
Sorry I couldn't accommodate all the requests.
Hot weather will "heal the bay" in a hurry.
A 23" postspawn brute was obviously the biggest. More postspawn fish showing up on summer areas but what a strung-out spawn. (Been seeing activity for six weeks.)
Local resort owner indicated that after few bookings early that he has been pleasantly surprised with all the calls of late.
Hoping all have a fun and safe birthday celebration...
HAPPY 4TH

Three days of 90+ temps and the water cooled! How? High winds blew the warm water out and it was replaced with cold Lake Michigan water.
The baitfish seemed to follow the warm water. A little less violent wind will help alot. Soon, I hope, we can get the vegetation growing.
As soon as the temps stabilize our smallmouth numbers will increase. Right now it is quality not quantity.
It may be the second week of July before we get the "true" July pattern.
Stay safe and keep catching them!
(Quiet Cove's Beavertail worm was our best today.)

Busy times as we wade through June! New friends got on board and we had fun!
Lots of fun-size fish (that means small) and a few (too few) tanks. Three pictured were 5.40 and up.
Soon, we will be exclusively on the big lake...
Until then, be safe and stay happy!

A successful day on a busy Lake Charlevoix. It was even busier because of a tournament that none of us could find registered on the state site.
But the warm night had the fish aggressive from the start and that made the boat launch traffic jam worth it!
Be seeing many of you soon--be safe.
