IT IS HAPPENING…
Our ice cover is disappearing rapidly. The wind over the past two days has done the damage. At this rate we will be fishing next week. Like usual, not all lakes will open at the same time, but two of our three favorite “early” lakes are approaching 50% open.
My “early” clients who await a call every year will be getting that call very soon. This puts us ahead of last year’s fishing debut.
If you are one who worries about the water temperature, you will need to wait a few weeks. However, if you want to catch fish…….

Ice is Going Fast…
Warm days, warm nights, rain and wind is the recipe for us to get rid of the ice and begin our serious pursuit of northern Michigan fish.
First up, before the ice is completely off, will be the Atlantic Salmon on Torch Lake.
Next will be the jumbo perch totally on (what many would call walleye-size) lures. Quality perch!
As the jerk bait fishing picks up steam the whitefish and lake trout become very accessible.
My strong suit is the smallie fishing but I interrupt my annual ritual to take my clients meat-fishing. Never more than a couple of days away from the smallies.
Late April and early May is an excellent time to get that six pounder.
Check out our pictures from 2014 and you’ll see I am serious about the plan.
When you call, just let me know what you prefer–smallmouth only or any combination mentioned.
Ice Report…
Things are slowly progressing toward open water fishing. However, last Monday they were driving trucks on the ice. Since then it has been reduced to ATVs and snow machines only. Sloppy edges but lots of ice away from shore.
Many are happy to still be ice fishing as this is turning out to be very productive. I am doing it (and doing well) but cannot wait for it to end. The open water fishing immediately after ice-out can be unbelievable.
Don’t get me started on my theory concerning water temperature.
Thanks to all who have booked early for this year’s fishing. I am excited to meet our new friends and to see the returnees again!
2015 Bookings at 2014 Rates…
If booked before April 1, 2015. Call or email for dates available. A deposit of $50 per day booked will hold your spot.
We will be at the Sherm’s Marine In-House Boat Show on Saturday, March 14. We will be talking “smallmouth” all day! All the new BassCat boats and Mercury outboards will be available. Sherm always has great show specials.
There are still plenty of open dates but they are going quickly. The jerk bait and blade bait fishermen are signing up for May fishing while those who like to bed fish are targeting the end of May and much of June.
Grub fishing has been very popular the past two years. It is “high-volume” fishing with big numbers possible. Later in the warmer weather, drop-shot fishing replaces the grub.
Let us know what style of fishing you like and we can help you decide when to come up.
Want something other than smallmouth? Ask about the whitefish and lake trout bonanza in May and June. Want variety? We can customize a trip that combines smallmouth and the “cold water” species on the same trip.
Hope to talk to you soon…
