No Surprise–June Is Going Very Well…
The spawn is just getting started on the big lake and it is just about finished in the shallow inland lakes. All other lakes fall somewhere in between.
In the past week we have caught prespawn smallies, spawning smallies and post spawn schooling smallies.
We have been dealing with spawning smallies since May 9 and should see the end in about three weeks. Honestly, that is when the really good fishing starts. That is if the weather lets us get on the big water.
Lots of variety now. Pick your method for smallies. Some even request to spend a couple of hours catching lakers, cisco and whitefish on bass tackle in very shallow water. Those fish love our finesse bass jigs!
Thanks to all of our 2015 clients for our busiest year yet. I am sorry that I was not able to fit in all requests as our calendar seemed to fill up quickly.
Another successful week fishing with Coach’s Angle Charters
Another successful week for Coach’s Angle Charters. This time we had families who chose Coach’s Angle Charters. It was fun with many fish boated.
June has been busy and successful. Fishermen from four states have joined us for a mixed bag of entertainment. One of the highlights was a 9 lb. whitefish taken on Wednesday. When we have targeted smallmouth, they have been very cooperative (topwater to jigs) but the lake trout and cisco have been caught in big numbers. We are catching all our fish on light tackle while casting (no trolling).
Lot more information coming your way really soon. In the meantime Coachs Angle Smallmouth Charters on facebook will have updates.

Mixed-Bag on the Big Lake…
Lake Trout, Whitefish, Smallmouth, Northern Pike and Cisco are in the same general area but seem to have their own feeding grounds. This mixed-bag fishing will last until third week of June and then it will become exclusively smallmouth.
We are using bass fishing techniques to catch all these fish. No trolling.
Limits of Lakers every trip this year. Last outing–18 Lakers, 2 Whitefish, 5 Smallies and 5 Cisco.
If this appeals to you give us a call soon.
Windy Week of May 18-22…
Monday gave us southerly winds and 80 degrees; Tuesday gave us northerly winds and 40 degrees (and snow); Wednesday, Thursday and Friday continued with the northerly but slightly warmer.
We had a few 21″ smallmouth this week but very many 17 to 20″. Obviously, we couldn’t finesse fish much this week we stayed with the cold and windy weather baits. They worked!
Having experienced fishermen on board this week made a rough weather week a very good smallmouth week. Mike and George from southern Indiana had cold weather for three of their four day trip. Once we developed the pattern they put some really nice smallmouth in the boat.
Next week will allow more and more fish to crawl on the beds. Stay tuned.
Mixed Bag Week
Jerkbaits, swimbaits and finesse jigs in less than 20′ of water to spoons in extremely deep water.
59 degree water to 33 degree water.
Fish locked on beds to fish at least a month from spawning.
Comfortable weather to very cold. High winds to slick calm.
We had several smallmouth over six (including a 6.82). We had too many pike. We had big schools of Lake Trout.
This week had it all. Even a few surprises. It was a good week.
Shallow Fishing Wednesday–Deep Fishing Thursday
Variety makes it fun. Yesterday we were catching smallies in very shallow water. Today as deep as 115 ft. for lakers. Smallmouth fishing is my favorite but on a day off–go spooning for some fish for the smoker. Fun! The lakers, cisco and whitefish will be very catchable for the next month. Need meat for the smoker? Let’s book a half-day.
What a busy and fun time of the year. Four different bodies of water this week–I love it.
