Tough in the Morning–Good in the Afternoon…

june13 007Fishing the deep, clear water lakes in the morning gave us a few good fish but we found that the shallow fish had moved back out to the breaks without spawning.  I am sure they will be back soon.  Instead of fish in 5 feet, they were in 15 to 18.

Afternoons on medium-depth flats provided relief with many smallies up to 4 lbs and many rock bass.june13 006

Once Again Prespawn and Postspawn Close by…

While the deepwater bodies of water have catchable fish, the transition period is not as productive as it will be when the whole spawning ritual is over.  Now, some are up; some are down; and many are suspended.

The flatter bodies of water are definitely the way to go for big numbers and fish up to 4.5 lbs.

The postspawn fish are looking to gain the weight lost during the spawn.june10 766

No Phone for Six Hours…

If you tried to call on Saturday, June 7, I apologize.  My “waterproof” phone wasn’t quite as waterproof as I had hoped.  I lost a few numbers and connections but am now in possession of a phone and by Tuesday will have my permanent replacement.

Boy do I rely on that phone!may 20 018

If I failed to return a call there is a good reason.

Give me another shot–260 519 1168.

Thanks

Within an Eight-mile Radius…

Smallmouth on tubes and other plastics; smallmouth on hardbaits; and smallmouth on blades.  Three different areas–three different methods.

This difference won’t last much longer.  Soon, all of theses bodies will be on the same pattern.

Our Friends from Tennessee…

After being blown off the lake on Tuesday, we resumed the pursuit on Wednesday.  What a different day.  Sunshine and mild winds in the morning lead to sunshine and high winds in the afternoon.

We caught a few spawners early and then some shallow fish in vegetation.   At 1 pm we found a flat full of prespawn smallies that were obviously feeding on craws.  After this discovery, the rest of the day was very fun with constant smallmouth action.  The biggest fish we hooked were in the 4 lb class with many from 2.5 to 3.25.  Very fun fishing.

A very good afternoon with good fishermen.june 4 004 june 4 006 june 4 005

High Winds and Storms in the Area…

After the very crowded conditions of the weekend it was shock to be the only vehicle in the parking lot and the only boat on the water until midday.  The 20-plus mph wind had something to do with it.

I couldn’t make up my mind which was more fun–catching prespawners on hard baits or catching spawners on plastic.  With four over three pounds including the 4.98 lb. pictured, the results were the same regardless of the approach.

A Good Day on a Crowded Saturday…

With beautiful weather, fish being extremely easy for all anglers, and practice day for a bass tournament, what a day to challenge our ability to get along with others.  It appears most were very cooperative.  Notice I said “most”.

Our fishing results were good.  Not as good as they would be on a weekday.. However, my friends from Indiana were able to adjust to the environment.  In several places we had wolfpack fish that allowed us to catch many in one spot.

Later we found beds that had not been there the day before.  No boat ride for any of our smallmouth.  The bedders were placed gently back into the water and then the quick swim back to the bed.may 31 012 may 31 005may 31 008may 31 009
