CoachsCharters
Happy New Year…
and thanks for making this past year a success for the old coach and his fishing charter business.
Remember that we will book three consecutive days for you to pick the best two to fish. If you choose to fish all three, that is fine! Otherwise we will pick the two days that offer the best weather conditions for the type of fishing you want to do. As I have said too many times, weather is our biggest obstacle.
Remember that parent/child discounts still apply.
Remember that multiple day discounts still apply.
We will start it all off with blade baits and jerk baits as soon as the ice goes away.
Until then I will be busy bird hunting with clients in Indiana and perch fishing through the ice on the local chain.
Don’t forget the following businesses that assist in keeping us operating…
Sherm’s Marine
Lew’s
BassCat Boats
Mercury Marine
Fishing Complete, Inc.
2014 was a Very Good Year…
but NOT PERFECT as we spent yesterday afternoon at the vet’s office removing porcupine quills.
After enjoying the best bird hunting year in a long while, we finished the season with our first porkie encounter of the year. It is amazing when you count the days we have spent hunting since September.
Although the two Brits will be okay (they’re demanding to hunt the very next day), it was uncomfortable for the dogs and the wallet.
Two weeks ago we had to have Ruby put down as she no longer had use of her hind legs.
Any of you who had the privilege of hunting behind Ruby know why this is so hard to report. All other dogs will be compared or contrasted to her. Her patience while circling a running cock pheasant may never be matched. I see flashes of the old girl in the youngster Duke. Time will tell if he will measure! Goodbye old friend.
Already Looking Forward to Spring Smallies…
With no limitation on catch-and-release for trophy smallmouth, we only need to wait on open water. THIS IS A CHANGE!
Although the early season is usually for the advanced fisherman, beginners willing to learn can catch their personal record smallmouth on our early season methods.
NOTE: One of our week-long clients who had booked in mid May has rescheduled for a week in June. We now have five free days in the heart of trophy fishing.
We will ice fish this winter but only as something to get us through to the best times on the best waters for the brown fish in the USA.
Two Days of NORTH Winds Equals…
TOUGH FISHING!!!
Friends from the south hit some really bad weather. Winds that were supposed to top out at 7 to 8 were more like 15 to 17.
The fish we have cornered on the bay went to waste as we could not go there. On the inland waters “thank goodness for jerk baits and spy baits”.
Whitefish for a Change…
October 1 on the bay was a fun half day of fishing. Whitefish and smallies on the same bait in the same areas was quite amusing.
Schooling fish chasing small bait made our finesse methods a good choice.
We do not keep smallies but we do keep walleye, whitefish and perch. My favorite is perch and that starts in about a week. But hooking 16 whitefish in a few hours was fun for now.
More than Fishing in this Area…
Bird season has just opened and the outdoorsman has many choices. Fish or hunt?
Many do both. Our Birds and Bass Combo is a great way to spend a couple of days.
The recent hot weather has pushed our birdhunting to mornings which leaves all afternoon for the smallies.
Our freezer fish (perch, walleye, whitefish, etc.) should have been accessible by now. They are teasing us with a good day once in a while, but no consistency.
