This moon plus three days of consistent wind made the quality fish very accessible. With none over 6 lbs, the number of schooled fish from 3.5 lbs to 4.80 lbs was noteworthy. Big fish was 5.28.
With only a handful of gigs remaining our crew is splitting time with perch/walleye inland outings and big lake smallies.
Stay safe and warm…

Biggest smallmouth catch of the year came yesterday. Consistent wind for several days had pushed baitfish into the danger zone.
We've been getting really good ones the past few weeks but not like these.
Some numbers include: three over six lbs; one over seven; five biggest were over 29 lbs.
The big fish appeared to be loners with the fun-sized grouped.
Looking forward to tomorrow's charter…

Coming off a very productive moon phase and just hours removed from violent storms (tornado?) our smallmouth lived up to their reputation.
With fishermen who perfected our methods, big numbers and big fish
were the result (26 in a partial day charter).
And the surprise of the day was the big number of good fish that had taken over a non-September area. And what a wide variety of depths.
Fun stuff!

With the overwhelming amount of baitfish available, the wind has become even more valuable. Consistent winds eventually push this "bass food" into areas that help the angler.
After three days of the same wind direction the "bass food" and the bass were in very predictable spots. And, yes, the smallies are schooling–even the big ones.
A couple of sixes and many fours were caught during weekend scouting trips to new and old areas.
